Would you like to be able to eat with less hindrance from tremors? Then, the Nelson is for you. It is an aid that is used to increase independence when eating. Tremors and coordination problems can occur, for example, in MS and Parkinson’s disease. The Nelson eating aid gives you more peace of mind while eating.

A tremor-reducing eating aid

The Nelson is equipped with a tremor-reducing system that smooths out jerky hand and arm movements and transforms them into smooth, guided movements. As a result, you can use the fork or spoon to bring food to your mouth yourself. Tremors and uncoordinated movements are very dependent on individuals and situations. Therefore, the Nelson offers the possibility to adjust the degree of resistance and dampening. Eating is done by placing your own hand on the handle and scooping up food. This can be done with your left or right hand.

The Nelson can be used for all mealtimes throughout the day and gives you back the ability to enjoy meals independently with a fork or spoon. Partners or other family members can also benefit from the Nelson. By being able to eat independently again, your table companions become equal partners around the dinner table. The Nelson can be attached to any table with clamps and its small size means that you can take it anywhere.

The possibilities of the Nelson

The Nelson can be delivered with various dishwasher-safe accessories. Two types of plates and a soup bowl are available. The plates and soup bowl are clamped onto the Nelson, but remain rotatable. Furthermore, they have an upright edge against which you can scoop the food. The difference between the two plates is the design of the outer edge that is used to turn the plate. During a consultation, we can look together at which version suits you best. Besides the plates, a fork and a spoon are supplied as standard.

Multiple functionality for young and old

We use the chest restraint for (young) children whose spasms or uncontrolled movements make it impossible for them to maintain a good sitting position in the wheelchair. A chest restraint also offers a solution for people with limited torso stability. Reduced muscle strength in the upper part of the body can cause you to slump down in the wheelchair or shift to the side of the backrest. The chest restraint prevents this movement and helps you to remain seated in your wheelchair.

When a Papillon head support alone isn’t sufficient, we can build an electric head support carrier. We often use this option in complex situations or when you feel the need to adjust the position of your back support and, therefore, your head support several times a day. An electric head support can only be assembled on an electric wheelchair.

Three different types to combine with your head support

We have three types of head support carriers in our range. The tiltable head support carrier, the head support carrier with a double linear and one with a single linear. These three can also be combined with each other. This gives the possibility of creating complex support with multiple adjustments. The head support carrier and thus the head support can be moved in the following directions: left-right, high-low, front-back and tilt. The wide range of possible adjustments means that the head can always be properly supported in a variety of positions.

We notice that people who use the Papillon are less tired. The head support keeps the head upright, without it requiring a lot of effort. The head is kept calm and still, which makes you less likely to suffer from muscle fatigue and overloading. This allows you to distribute your energy better throughout the day and focus on other activities that are (again) possible! Better vision, better swallowing, easier talking and better movement of the head and torso are the positive effects of using the Papillon. Driving a car is also more comfortable, because there is less tension in the neck.

A tailor-made solution is always possible

To even better meet your personal needs, the basic Papillon model can be extended with several features. Support pillows can be added to provide side support, to correct for sideways bending of the head. To support the forward movement, a forehead strap can be added. This is soft and elastic so that you are not fixed too tightly, which is more pleasant when you are looking around, for example. Switches can also be added to enable control via the head. Irrespective of its set-up, a Papillon offers optimal freedom around the ears, so that any earrings or hearing aids remain free.

The great advantage of this is that there is no mechanism under your arm, allowing freedom of movement above a table or work surface. A unique feature of the Sling is that the arm movement reaching forwards is guided very smoothly. The Sling is a durable product that is also easy to fold up and remove. There is also a version specifically for children.

Who is it for?

The Sling allows more movement of the forearm

The Sling is an aid which can be used if you need support for your shoulder and arm muscles so that you can move your forearm more easily. You need very little muscle strength to use the sling, but you do need some form of hand function. The aid can also be used for both arms simultaneously. It can be mounted on one’s own wheelchair or triple chair, but can also be supplied on a base frame so that you can decide for yourself where in the house you want to use it.

Function

The Sling lets your forearm float, experience the freedom

The Sling consists of a construction that is connected to your arm from above by means of a cord. This creates a situation where your forearm is suspended, so that you do not come into conflict with, for example, your keyboard. The Sling uses weight compensation by means of counterweights. The degree of gravity compensation can be changed by decreasing or adding weights. The Sling supports your arm movements in the vertical plane, so moving in the horizontal plane requires less energy. The Sling does not require electrical assistance.

Everyday activities become possible again

The Sling will give you more independence by allowing you to use your arms and, therefore, also your hands. It enables you to eat and drink independently, to pick up or operate things yourself and to reach your face again, for example to adjust your glasses or to deal with an itchy nose. If you don’t want to use the Sling for a while, you can simply get someone to fold it up or take it down.

The arm support is made up of different shapes and sizes of bandages that provide support to the elbow and/or wrist. These bandages are made from medically approved neoprene, which provides soft and comfortable support.

Would like natural support for your arm

Do you need to compensate for the muscular strength in your arm? Would you like to adjust the amount of support throughout the day? Then the Gowing may be the right arm support for you. In the case of excessive muscle function or tremors, the Gowing can also be a support for you in your daily activities. The Gowing does not require the user to secure their arm and thus allows them to independently place their arm in or remove it from the Gowing.

Function

A unique hybrid system

The Gowing is based on compensating the weight of your arm. This is called ‘counterbalancing the arm.’ The large horizontal movements of your arm therefore require hardly any strength. The vertical movements of your arm are supported by a balancing system that uses stored power in a spring mechanism. Parallel to this technology, an adjustable forearm piece is used. This makes it possible to fix your forearm at various points. The Gowing itself doesn’t move below a certain point, but you can still raise your forearm independently. This functionality is very effective when eating or operating a keyboard, and for lifting the arm to grab something at a height that may not have been possible before.

Operation

With one push on one of the nine buttons

In principle, the Gowing is operated by means of a control panel with 9 very easy-to-operate buttons. The control panel will be mounted at the location of your choice. LED lighting and acoustic signals will provide feedback on the chosen function. If this control panel isn’t ideal for you, the control functions can also be implemented by separate switches. Some examples of functions that can be set via the control panel are: fixation of the arm position, degree of power compensation and adjustment of the angle.

The Gowing provides support for a wide range of everyday activities, such as eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, using a keyboard or scratching your nose. The intelligent design of the Gowing perfectly follows the horizontal movements of your arm. The hybrid system also ensures that the Gowing provides stable support for precision activities. If you don’t want to use the Gowing for a while, it’s easy to remove part or all of it. The Gowing can be used on one or both sides.

CushioningThe 2^nd Generation Gowing is equipped with an integrated cushioning system. This provides an additional safety mechanism in the event that the forearm is removed from the arm support and is not fixed in place.

User functions

Positive restraintThe axes of the Gowing can be fixed in any direction to prevent the arm from moving. This is useful, for example, during a wheelchair ride or when being transported.

Tilt correctionGowing offers the possibility to actively correct the tilt angle in order to increase the reach in certain directions.

The Dowing² absorbs the weight of your arm and compensates the force of gravity. This relieves the strain on your shoulder. This gravity compensation is easily adjustable from 0 to 100%.
